Team leader: Xiaoguang Yang, PhD, Professor

Prof. Xiaoguang Yang was admitted to the Department of Civil Engineering at Tongji University in 1978, the year of the resumption of the college entrance exam of China. He received his B.E. degree in Jul. 1982, and started teaching as an assistant at the first traffic engineering laboratory of mainland China at Tongji University. Afterwards he received his Master’s degree and Ph.D. on traffic engineering at Tongji University in 1985 and 1992. Since 1994, recommended by the National Education Commission of China and funded by Japanese Monbukagakusho Scholarship, he started pursuing his Ph.D. at Kyoto University on traffic engineering, and after received the degree he returned to work in Sep. 1996. He was appointed as professor and doctoral supervisor in Jun. 1996, took charge as the director of the ITS Research Center of Tongji University in 1997, and acted as the deputy director of the Department of Road and Traffic Engineering of Tongji University in 1998. From 2002 to 2014, he was the director of the Department of Traffic Engineering of Tongji University, and was appointed as the director of Traffic Safety Research Laboratory of Shanghai Institute of Disaster Prevention and Relief since 2002. From Jan. to Jun. 2014, he proceeded his research at University of Washington as a senior visiting scholar. Nowadays, he is a professor, doctoral supervisor, and the chief of professor committee at the Department of Transportation Information and Control Engineering of Tongji University, and is regarded as the academic leader of the two national key discipline of Tongji University – Transportation Information and Control Engineering and Transportation Planning and Management. He is now concentrating on the analysis, optimization, and design theory and method towards complicated transportation systems, the management, control, and service theory and application on the Intelligent Transportation System, and devoting himself to the study on the next generation transportation system and urban science and technology. Prof. Yang was in charge of many pioneering national projects and great researches into applications, such as National 973 and 863 plan, National Natural Science Foundation of China. Prof. Yang’s achievements, of significant theoretical and practical meaning, are published on national and international popular journals and widely cited, which is awarded 12 times by Ministry of Public Security, Shanghai City, and National Intelligent Transport System Association. Also, he is expert in teaching, delivering national selected video open class, editing national university books in 11th and 12th five-year-plan. Until now, he has nurtured 59 doctorate students and 100 graduate students as well as 10 post-doctors, winning Educating Award in Shanghai City. And he co-created and manages the National Undergraduate Transport Technological Competition. His contributions allow him to ascend in the New Century National Hundred, Thousand and Ten Thousand Talent Project, entitled as Pioneering Talent in Shanghai and Famous Teachers in Tongji University. Pro. Yang has taken such important posts as member of Higher Education in transportation teaching and guidance committee by Department of Education, deputy director of teaching and guidance committee in traffic engineering, deputy head of the expert group in urban “Smooth Traffic Project” by Ministry of Public Security and Ministry of Housing, member of the technical expert advisory committee in the intelligent transportation system by Ministry of Science and Technology, member of the degree council in Shanghai, member of academic committees including National Intelligent Transport Systems Center of Engineering and Technology, consultant in many provinces and cities for urban transport problems as well as member of editing committees for many academic journals, including The International Symposium on Transport Network Reliability, Journal of Transportation Information and Safety, and Journal of Transportation Engineering and Information. Team members:

Wanjing Ma is currently a professor and deputy head of the Department of Transportation Information and Control Engineering, Tongji University. Dr. Ma is the recipient of the award of Shanghai Pujing Scholar Program. His research interests include traffic operation and control, traffic design, intelligent transportation systems, and shared mobility. On these topics, he has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He is the principle investigator of two projects funded by the National Nature Science Foundation of China, and has been involved in many national level projects. He has won four prizes of provincial and ministerial level. Dr. Ma is an active member of professional societies such as the Transportation Research Board (TRB), he is serving as a referee for several academic journals and international conferences, such as Transportation Research Part A/B/C, IEEE Transactions on Intelligent Transportation Systems, Journal of Advanced Transportation, ASCE Journal of Transportation Engineering, Transport Policy, etc.

 

Meiping Yun, PhD, Associate Professor, doctoral supervisor at the Department of Transportation Information and Control Engineering, Tongji University. Her main research interests include travel behavior and public transportation, intelligent transportation systems, traffic management. Meiping Yun is the principle of the National Natural Science Foundation of China (one completed project, one ongoing project); She has completed four projects funded by the National High Technology Research and Development Program ("863"Program) of China as a main participant. She has published over 50 academic papers, more than 30 of them are SCI (SSCI) or EI indexed. She teaches undergraduate courses such as "Transportation System Theory", "Traffic Engineering", "Intelligent Transportation Systems", "Traffic Design". She teaches graduate courses including "Travel Behavior Theory and Analysis Method", "Travel Behavior and Traffic Policy", and "Urban Transportation Data and Information Analysis Method".

 

Zhizhou WU, PhD, Associate Professor, doctoral supervisor at the Department of Transportation Information and Control Engineering, Tongji University. His main research interests include Intelligent Transportation System, Cooperative Vehicle and Infrastructure and Active Traffic Safety. He teaches undergraduate courses of “Intelligent Transportation System" and "Traffic Engineering”. He teaches graduate courses of “Intelligent Transportation System" and” Cooperative Vehicle and Infrastructure and Active Traffic Safety. He is the principle of two projects funded by the Ministry of Science and Technology, three projects funded by the National High Technology Research and Development Program ("863"Program), one project funded by the National Research Foundation for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education of China, four international cooperation projects and more than twenty projects funded by local governments. He has published over 100 academic papers, more than 40 of them are SCI (SSCI) or EI indexed. He has two national invention patents and seven software copyrights. He has won four prizes of provincial and ministerial level.

Research interests

Orienting to the complex road traffic environment and condition, aiming at the optimization and intelligence of the efficiency on the operation of the transportation system, our group targets at the “Theory and key technology of the system engineering on intelligent transportation management, control and service”, which includes the complex transportation system analysis and its holographic prediction/forecast/warning/decision support, the traffic design, the active transportation system management (ATSM), the active transportation control system (ATCS), the public transit priority and its service and efficiency management, active transportation demand management, shared mobility, and connected vehicles.
