Team leader:

Prof. Shunhua Zhou is the head of the Department of Urban Rail Transit and Railway Engineering, a Council Member of China Association of Railway Engineering Construction and China Civil Engineering Society, a Chapter Executive Director of Chinese Society for Rock Mechanics & Engineering (CSRME), and a Deputy Director of the Waterproof and Drainage Branch of the Associate of Tunnel and Underground Engineering in China Civil Engineering Society. Meanwhile, Prof. Zhou serves on the editorial boards of International Journal of Rail Transportation, Journal of Tongji University, Rock and soil Mechanics, Tunnel Constructions and other journals within domestic and overseas.

Prof Zhou’s teaching, research and consulting interests and expertise mainly focus on the design and construction of railway engineering structures and the railway engineering dynamics; He proposed the integrated theory and methodology of railway structure design, implementation and maintenance based on the alignment characteristics, established the computational model of excavation stress release, subway tunnel buoyancy calculation and anti-water inrush stabilization, uncovered the basic principle of shield tunnel uplift and settlement, and developed the Urban Rail Transit and Railway Engineering safety control measure under complicated conditions. Meanwhile, Prof. Zhou has been the principal investigator of more than 50 grants of Scientific development plan in areas such as city rail transportation, maglev structure, high-speed railway.

Team members:

Quanmei Gong, born in October 1967, PhD, Professor. Research interests: track infrastructure dynamics, design theories and construction technologies of rail transit structures. She is the director of two projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China, one project of the Specialized Research Fund for the Doctoral Program of Higher Education, one project of Natural Science Foundation of Shanghai and two projects of Ministry of Railway. She is also the collaborator of two projects of National “863” Project and two projects of Scientific Development Plan of Ministry of Railway. She has been in charge of more than 30 researches and consulting programs of government, scientific research institutions and enterprises. Prof. Gong has published 4 textbooks. She is the chief editor of one book and the associate editor of the other 3 ones. In the last five years, Prof. Gong has obtained 11 patents.

Yao Shan, born in May 1984, PhD, Assistant Professor. Research interests: vehicle-track-subgrade coupling dynamics, transition performance and safety control of railway track transition zones. He is the director of one project of the Science and Technology Committee of Shanghai and two projects of the Fundamental Research Funds for the Central Universities. He has participated in two projects of National Natural Science Foundation of China and one project of National “863” Project. He has one provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological achievements reward.

Research interests

With the implementation of national strategies, e.g. “New-style Urbanization”, “the Silk Road Economic Belt and the 21st-Century Maritime Silk Road” and “Globalization of China's High Speed Railway”, the construction requirement and scale of rail transit infrastructures gradually expand. And the construction environment is changing more and more complicated. Consequently, it is urgent to study the advance construction technologies in area with complex geological conditions and extreme events as well as the control technique of environment response to the rail transit construction.

The research highlight of this team is advanced construction technologies of the rail transit infrastructures. Some previous research works have been taken on structure design theory and construction technologies of the rail transit, track dynamics, geomaterial mechanical properties and constitutive relations. Dozens of domestic and international research projects have been taken by this team. Approximately 200 papers indexed by SCI/EI have been published. Three provincial and ministerial level scientific and technological achievements rewards have been obtained.

The principal research targets of this team:

1. To receive a National Prize for Progress in Science and Technology or Technological Invention.

2. To publish no less than 10 papers indexed by SCI.

3. To compile a National Code.

4. To publish 1 or 2 academic monographs.

5. To direct 3 national level projects or major projects (more than 1500000RMB research funding for each project).

6. To become the editorial board members (1~2) of international journals.

7. To open an international course.

8. To recruit a reserve talent with international perspective.
