主讲人简介

        吴荣宗博士现为加州大学路面研究中心研究员。吴荣宗博士先后在清华大学取得本科及硕士学位、于2005年在美国加州大学伯克利分校取得博士学位。目前主要研究方向包括路面工程力学经验设计法及加速加载实验。其科研项目主要由美国加州交通部及美国联邦航空管理局资助。目前主持的研究项目包括建立加州路面工程材料数据库,完善路面力学模型,开发简易沥青混凝土路用性能测试方法,以及建立面向路用性能的沥青混凝土施工规范。

主讲内容简介

        Like many other states in the U.S., Californiais transitioning from using empirical method to mechanist-empirical (M-E) method for both rigid and flexible pavement designs in the hopes of driving innovations, improving efficiency, and promoting sustainability. Although the transition has proved to be slow, steady progress has been made. With the completion of a modern pavement management system in sight, it is believed that California finally has all the major components in place to close the loop for an M-E design approach. The purpose of this presentation is to propose an overarching framework that ties various aspects of pavement engineering into a virtuous cycle that leads to continuous improvements in both M-E design method itself and quality of the pavement network. Specifically, the presenter will discuss the roles of mechanistic model development, accelerated pavement testing, pavement management system, M-E calibration, mix design, and performance related construction specifications in an M-E design paradigm. The current progress made in California related to M-E design will also be presented. The goal is to provide a clear anatomy of the M-E design approach and hopefully showcase its various benefits and in turn promote its development and faster adoption.
