主讲人简介:

Angel Mateos is Principal Investigator of the UC Pavement Research Center at Berkeley. He has served as Principal Investigator in numerous research projects funded by the Spanish Ministry for Public Works, the European Union, the World Bank, and Caltrans, among others. Former Associate Professor of Geotechnical Engineering at Universidad Complutense de Madrid and Pavement Engineering at Universidad Europea de Madrid. His main expertise is in full-scale and mechanistic-empirical design of asphalt and concrete pavements, and fundamental characterization and modelling of pavement materials. He is Master Civil Engineering from the University of Minnesota and Ph.D. from the Polytechnic University of Madrid. Member of scientific committees at TRB, APSE, ASCE, and NRRA.

主讲内容简介:

Thin concrete overlay on asphalt (COA), formerly known as thin whitetopping, is a pavement rehabilitation technique that consists of placement of a 100 to 150 mm thick concrete overlay on an existing flexible or composite pavement. The thin COA is typically built with relatively short slabs, 1.8 ×1.8 meters, and its structural capacity relies on the contribution from the asphalt base. Testing with the Heavy Vehicle Simulator and initial experience in California demonstrates that the thin COA can provide 20-years of service life with minimum or no maintenance and it is suitable for rehabilitating asphalt pavements that are in fair to good condition (not heavily distressed). This presentation will provide guidelines for design and construction of the thin COA. The presentation will also show the research, implementation, and initial performance of the technique in California.
