主讲人简介:

Ir Prof. William H.K. Lam(林興強教授工程師)is an Emeritus Professor of Civil & Transportation Engineering in the Civil & Environmental Engineering Department, The Hong Kong Polytechnic University.

He is also an Honorary Professor at the Institute for Transport and Logistics Studies, The University of Sydney, Australia since 2015 and was appointed the Chiang Jiang Chair Professor at the Beijing Jiaotong University from 2010 to 2016. Currently, he is a member of the international scientific committee of the International Symposium on Transportation Network Resilience (INSTR) (www.instr.org). Ir Prof. Lam has been the Convenor of the International Advisory Committee of the International Symposium on Transportation & Traffic Theory (https://isttt23.sciencesconf.org/resource/page/id/6https://isttt23.sciencesconf.org/)from 2015 to 2022. He has over 40 years of professional experience in research and practice for planning and design of transport infrastructure.

Ir Prof. Lam is the founding Editor-in-Chief of the SCI Journal Transportmetrica and is now one of the Co-Editors-in-Chief of Transportmetrica A: Transport Science (https://www.tandfonline.com/toc/ttra21/current). He is also the Founding President of the Hong Kong Society for Transportation Studies (www.hksts.org). Ir Prof. Lam is the author of more than 380 SCI journal papers or book chapters, 230 conference papers and 80 consultancy reports. His research interests include transport planning and traffic forecasting, ITS technology and development, smart surveillance and traffic simulation, public transport and pedestrian studies.

主讲内容简介:

Under the big data arena, various stochastic models and advanced techniques have been developed in recent years for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) with taking account of the second order (i.e. variance and covariance) of travel times. In this presentation, an overview of recent development of intelligent transportation systems (ITS) in Hong Kong road network will firstly be given together with further extensions to reliability-based ITS. It will cover the challenges encountered for ITS development in Hong Kong, the provision of real-time road traffic information using limited available data from multiple sensor systems (on-line data) in combination with historical data (off-line data), and a reliability-based routing service with on-time arrival probability, etc. The recent research work on deriving new methods and enhancement of ITS testbed will also be discussed together with the opportunities and challenges ahead.Under the big data arena, various stochastic models and advanced techniques have been developed in recent years for intelligent transportation systems (ITS) with taking account of the second order (i.e. variance and covariance) of travel times.
