主讲人简介:
Egidio Quaglietta is a tenured assistant professor in Railway Traffic Management at TU Delft and co-director of the Digital Rail Traffic Lab. He has been leading research on digital rail innovations including Moving Block, Virtual Coupling signaling, Automatic Train Operations, Optimised rail traffic management and self-organsing rail operations. He has led cutting-edge rail research in several European R&D projects such as FP1-MOTIONAL, MOVINGRAIL, PERFORMINGRAIL and SORTEDMOBILITY. His experience in the field of railway signaling started in 2008, obtaining a PhD degree on simulation-based signaling optimization. Later on Egidio worked as R&D engineer for several prominent railway companies such as the Italian railway system supplier Ansaldo STS (now Hitachi STS) and the British railway infrastructure manager “Network Rail”. Among his industrial experiences, he has led a workstream of the R&I program “Digital Railway” as well as the sub-project on “Operations for Enhanced Capacity” for the EC FP7 project Capacity for Rail (C4R). He has developed the simulation tool EGTRAIN and his main interests are in the areas of railway traffic and infrastructure optimization, innovative signaling technology and automated railway operations. He is a member of the Institution of Railway Signal Engineers (IRSE).
主讲内容简介:
In an era of deep societal and environmental challenges, railways are internationally envisioned to become the main backbone of a more sustainable and competitive future transport system. “Digitalisation” of rail traffic operations is deemed to be a key enabler to effectively expand the existing railway transport capacity while limiting costly and land-use constrained infrastructure extensions. But what is it intended for digitalisation? And how is this concept applied to railways? In this seminar you will learn about current and future plans of the international rail industry to automate, optimise and digitally interconnect railway operations. The seminar will take you through the main concept of railway digitalisation, explaining the main objectives and challenges, relevant R&D programmes at international level and illustrating research initiatives which aim to support the industry to tackle such an epochal step change. Several studies will be reported about the impacts that innovative technologies including next-generation signalling systems, driverless trains and optimised traffic management algorithms will have on rail service performances.
Looking forward to meeting you at the seminar so that you can know more about the latest research developments and cutting-edge innovations in the international railway field.
