Pedestrians have been considered as the most vulnerable road users. In the United States, approximately one-thirds of killed people from traffic crashes are pedestrians. Two perspectives to explore pedestrian safety: microscopic and macroscopic analyses are explained. The macroscopic analysis along with transportation safety planning for pedestrians is mainly discussed in the lecture. In addition, the concept of safety-in-numbers are explained with a recent case study in Florida.
