主讲人简介:
Dr. DingXin Cheng is a professor of the department of civil engineering at California State University, Chico, director of the California Pavement Preservation Center, and the director of the Tire Engineering Research Center. He obtained his Ph.D. in the areas of pavement materials and transportation from Texas A&M University in College Station, Texas in 2002. He worked in private industry for Parsons Brinckerhoff in Houston, TX before joining the Chico State University. He has many peer-reviewed publications related to pavement materials and preservation in Transportation Research Board, AAPT, ASCE, and other conferences. He also served on the FHWA Pavement Preservation Expert Task Group, and NCHRP panels. Dr. Cheng has worked on several NCHRP projects and FHWA sponsored research projects. Currently, Dr. Cheng serves as the Chair of the TRB Pavement Preservation Committee and the member of the TRB Pavement Maintenance Committee of National Academy of Science of United States.
主讲内容简介:
Pavement preservation utilizes a range of proactive strategies and techniques to prevent pavement deterioration and extend the life of existing pavement assets. Integrating pavement preservation into a pavement management system (PMS) is an important step in optimizing the maintenance and rehabilitation of a roadway network. Integrating pavement preservation into a pavement management system involves clearly defining pavement preservation, developing performance models to predict future conditions, evaluating current conditions, prioritizing preservation treatments, developing a comprehensive preservation program, and evaluating and improving the program's effectiveness over time.
It is important to evaluate the current condition of the pavement network and then identify areas that need preservation treatments. This can be done using a range of data sources, including visual or automated inspections, pavement distress surveys, and pavement condition indices (PCI). Prioritize preservation treatments based on the results of the performance models and the current condition of the network. Consider factors such as the age and condition of the pavement, traffic volume, and environmental factors when prioritizing treatments. Develop a comprehensive pavement preservation program that includes a range of treatments and strategies, such as crack sealing, Cape seals, and thin overlays. The program should also include guidelines for selecting and applying treatments, as well as monitoring and evaluating their effectiveness. Use the results to refine the program and adjust as needed.
Integrating pavement preservation into a pavement management system can result in significant cost savings, improved pavement condition, and increased safety for road users. By developing a comprehensive preservation program and using performance models to prioritize treatments, decision-makers can optimize the maintenance and rehabilitation of their roadway network.
