Professor Zhang has hosted 15 research projects of both Shanghai Municipal government and Ministry of Railways, 2 international cooperation projects, more than 40 authorized projects. He has published nearly 60 papers. For the leading level of these projects, many achievements were widely applied by many institutions including Ministry of Railways, Shanghai Railway Bureau, Shanghai transport and port authority, Shanghai port services office, and headquarter of Yangshan seaport, bringing the economic benefits and social benefits. His project of Offshore type of port logistics park development strategy research won the first prize of The 6th Shanghai decision-making consultation research (2007). And the project of Yangshan deep-water port sea rail transport demand analysis and countermeasure research won the third prize of science and technology progress awards of China Ports Association in 2008. Zhang has maintained academic communication and cooperation with many top-notch research institutions such as WCTRS, LET and so on.
