Research interests
Dr. Bing Wu, born in Dec. 1960, is a full time Professor and the Secretary Director of School of Transportation Engineering, at Tongji University in Shanghai. He is one of the academic leaders of the National Key Discipline of “Transportation Planning and Management” of Tongji University. His main research interests include Analysis and Optimization of Transportation Systems, Traffic Congestion Management and Control, etc. He has devoted himself for many years to the teaching and research in the two research directions.
The bachelor course Traffic Management and Control given by him since early 1990s, has won the Excellence Course of China in 2010. He has published over 50 professional articles and educational Materials. For instance the third Edition of the book 《Traffic Management and Control》 edited by him has become the “10th Five-year” National Planning Material for General Higher Education and won the Third Prize of the Excellence Course Material of Shanghai in 2007. The fourth Edition of the book has become the “11th Five-year” National Planning Material for General Higher Education.
He has been awarded and involved in many national projects. Related to congestion management and control, he researched on congested traffic flow characteristics and strategies to manage and control congestion. He took in charge of projects of Traffic Congestion under the Land Redevelopment funded by Doctoral Fund of Ministry of Education, Regional Coordinated Traffic Control under Special Conditions funded by 863 High-Tech, Active Management and Control of Urban Network flows based on Multi-source Data funded by Key Project of NSFC, etc. In the research direction of transport systems of Urban Agglomeration, he took in charge of projects of Transport Modal Development of Urban Agglomeration funded by NSFC, Impacts of Urbanization on Transportation Systems for the 12th Five-Year funded by the Ministry of Transport, Impacts of Urban Agglomeration in the Pearl River Delta on Transport Systems in Guangzhou, Impacts of Hangzhou Bay Bridge Opening on the Development of Ningbo funded by the Department of Transport of Zhejiang Province, etc. He co-authored the book 《Transport Planning for Urban Agglomeration》 as educational materials in Transport Engineering Series for General Higher Education. In the research direction of transport management under abnormal events, he completed the Standard of PRC《Safety Work Rules for Highway Maintenance(JTG H30-2004)》and the Standard of Shanghai《Safety Work Rules for Urban Road Maintenance(SZ-51-2006)》. He took in charge of the project of Robustness of Hangzhou Road Networks and Responsive Strategies under Natural Disasters funded by the Department of Transport of Zhejiang Province, etc.
