Prof. Chi Xie obtained his B.Eng. in Civil Engineering, M.Eng. in Transportation Engineering, M.S. in Transportation Engineering, and Ph.D. in Systems Engineering from Tsinghua University, National University of Singapore, University of Massachusetts, and Cornell University, respectively. He is a Tenured Professor in School of Transportation Engineering and an Adjunct Professor in Urban Mobility Institute at Tongji University. His current research interests focus on analyzing and optimizing large-scale transportation and infrastructure networks, transportation-electricity megasystems, shared and public transportation systems, and freight transportation and logistics systems, on the strategic, tactic and operational levels. The common goal of his research is to enhance the system efficiency, mobility, reliability and sustainability, while reducing the energy use and environmental impacts. Over past years, his research activities have been sponsored by the U.S. National Science Foundation, National Natural Science Foundation of China, Ministry of Science and Technology of China, Ministry of Education of China, China Recruitment Program of Global Experts, and other domestic and international funding sources; his research results have appeared in 150+ peer-reviewed journal and conference papers and 10+ authorized national patents, along with 6 best paper awards of international or domestic conferences and 3 champions of national innovation and entrepreneurship competitions.
Prof. Xie was a recipient of the Young Talent Award from the China Recruitment Program of Global Experts in 2013, a Distinguished Young Investigator of Frontiers of Engineering from the Chinese Academy of Engineering in 2017, and a recipient of the International Road Transport Science and Technology Leadership Award from the China Highway and Transportation Society in 2022. At present, Prof. Xie serves as an associate editor of Socio-Economic Planning Sciences, Transportation Letters, and Transportation Science and Technology and a guest editor or editorial board member of a number of other international or domestic journals; he is also the chair of the Transportation and Logistics Systems Planning Cluster of World Transport Convention, a member of the United Nations Transportation and Sustainable Infrastructure Advisory Committee of China Association for Science and Technology, and a member of the Transportation Network Modeling Committee and Travel Demand Management Committee of U.S. Transportation Research Board.
